What the reviewers said

Tom's Guide

4/5Jun 14, 2025

A budget phone with a triple camera and telephoto, strong value and battery life, but underwhelming performance and little camera improvement over its predecessor.

  • Ultra affordable at $279 starting price
  • More premium design with metal trim and IP54
  • Good telephoto camera performance
  • Long battery endurance
  • Bright, colorful 120Hz AMOLED display
  • Underwhelming processing performance
  • No main camera performance boost over predecessor
  • Peak brightness lower than claimed
  • Hard to buy in the US due to beta program

Brighter, better-cameraed successor that keeps the budget-friendly modular design; a wonderfully complete package for its price range.

  • Better main camera and two new auxiliary lenses
  • Brighter 10-bit display with up to 3000 nits
  • Small performance bump over predecessor
  • NFC payment support added
  • Still very affordable at launch price
  • Only IP54 rated, down from predecessor's IP52 rating... an improvement, but not…
  • Single speaker only, no stereo audio
  • Essential Space may cost money in future
  • Software support shorter than some rivals
